As much as it pains me to say it, because I really hate AVID, it is used at nearly all of the big studios, and being able to put "extensive AVID experience" on your resumé is really nice. However, if you are interested in editing as a career, it doesn't really make a huge difference. read more

Media Composer. While you can learn FCPX for fun, it is not going to help your career. Saying you are an Avid editor will. Avid is also made for cutting films. After reading a few articles about the filmmakers' choice to use FCPX for that particular film, it seems a great deal of functionality was added via plugins and third-party software that are also available for other professional editing programs, and the few FCPX-specific features that they note are things just as easily accomplished in other programs if you know what you're doing. read more
