Of course Shakespeare was a great writer. Just because he re-wrote (and improved upon) stories he had found doesn't lessen the quality of his writing. Re-writing or re-fashioning a given story is actually a valid and time-honored technique. Originality doesn't necessarily equate to quality. read more

Sure, he may have great works (and I enjoy them) but I mean, there are other great writers in this world like Robert Frost. Shakespeare can be one of the greatest writers of all time, but certainly there isn't a "the" greatest for the whole world. It could be for one's opinion, but not for mine. read more
