Shakespeare is known as a famous writer for several important reasons. Firstly, he had an uncanny ability to take 'human interest' stories from right around the world and make them not appealing to but also accessible to the masses, both ordinary people and royalty. read more

Of course Shakespeare was a great writer. Just because he re-wrote (and improved upon) stories he had found doesn't lessen the quality of his writing. Re-writing or re-fashioning a given story is actually a valid and time-honored technique. Originality doesn't necessarily equate to quality. read more

Sure, he may have great works (and I enjoy them) but I mean, there are other great writers in this world like Robert Frost. Shakespeare can be one of the greatest writers of all time, but certainly there isn't a "the" greatest for the whole world. It could be for one's opinion, but not for mine. read more
