Was the Middle East better off under the Ottoman Empire?

The empire unified the the Middle East until its permanent damage from fighting with the Central Powers in World War 1 and years later it would fall in 1924 due to a revolution. I believe that in terms of issues in the Middle East today the world would benefit more if the Ottoman Empire still ruled the Middle East. read more

The Middle East might not have become any better off, the main benefit would have flowed to the western nations. Instead of the modern world of hostility to the secular west, it would be the secular oriented Turks coping with the internal rebellions of its theocratic leaning possessions. read more
