Were the North Africans known as Moors black?

Moors were not actually 'black" in that sense. Othello was not a black guy. Shakespeare and Europeans back at the time called ANY one who was even just "Arab" looking with the word "black". Sub-Saharan (black African) people who immigrated to Mauritania and Morocco. Some say Morocco and Mauritania were one country ruled by the Moors for a short period of time when the Natives (Berbers) kicked them out. read more
