Were there other boats when Noah built the ark?

There were probably other boats, or at least barges, during the days of Noah, but none on the scale which he built. It took him 120 years to finish construction and was quite large even compared to many other ships for centuries to come. Remember, it was made of wood. read more

Unless other boats were totally covered - as the ark is described - then when you work out the density of rain that would have to fall to flood the entire Earth there is no way that anyone would be able to keep up with the bailing for 40 days. There is no reason to assume that there were animals on other continents before the flood, nor do we know if the continents had separated before that cataclysm. The real question is how the animals spread to other continents after the flood, but once again we don't know the configuration of the land at that time. read more
