The Catskill Mountains in New York State are located west of the Hudson River and about 100 miles to the northwest of the huge metropolitan area of New York City. The state's capital, Albany, is to the northeast of the Catskills, which has as many as 30 mountains that have an elevation of at least 3,500 above sea level. read more
One animal that is very prevalent, especially in the summer, are eastern timber rattlesnakes. Lots of people are ignorant to the fact rattlesnakes are all over the Catskills and think they are only a desert creature out west. Maybe this will help out some folks venturing on corresponding trails. read more
