The pay. Either people think we earn a mint or do it for free. Neither are true. Archaeology is notoriously badly paid. There are people who do archaeology for free though which just adds to the confusion. That archaeologists travel the world digging where we please. This is laughable. read more
I find one of the biggest misconceptions is that people think that all anthropology is archaeology. They don't realize how vast of a field anthropology is, since it is encompasses anything that humans do. And akin to that is that anthropology is something that you become. You go to law school, you become a lawyer. read more
Archaeology is primarily about digging things up, particularly human remains. No, not anymore. In the past, archaeology was much more focused on the large-scale excavation of sites. Currently, most archaeology is completed with a more balanced and nuanced approach. read more
