There are really two types of contituents to an atom: The nucleus — a positively charged, tiny center to the atom where 99.5% of the mass of the atom resides. Subatomic particles are those basic particles that make up atoms or smaller entities. The basic sub-atomic particles are: photons (makes up gluons), neutrinos, electrons and quarks. All matter is made up of those sub-atomic particles. read more
Well, there are indeed lots subatomic particles, and new ones keep being found, and we do not know if there may be more. Some are more"elmentary" than others, in that some are the building blocks for the others. read more
