After recording with Miles Davis on Birth of the Cool in 1949-50 Gerry Mulligan recorded in a pianoless quartet with Chet Baker on trumpet in 1952–53. As a baritone saxophonist he had noticed the extra freedom he enjoyed playing live, without a piano, prior to these recordings. read more
