Ghiradelli is also good. Paying for more expensive chocolate than that has diminishing returns for cookies. Nestle is the classic, so people will like it and find it familiar, but I find it a little gritty and paying a little more for Guittard or Ghiradelli is well worth the extra $1 or so in my book. read more

Ghirardelli semi-sweet are my preference. Nestle Toll House morsels are commonly used, but I find them a little too sweet. I think the Hershey semi-sweet chips would be a strong second choice for me. read more
