Having been to Kyoto 4 times as tourist, these are the best Kyoto neighborhoods to stay in based on my personal opinion. Downtown Kawaramachi - Lively shopping and restaurant district but still within 15 minutes walk to historical Gion. I recommend to stay between Sanjo and Shijo Dori near the Kamogawa River. read more
