What are the dangers of swimming in a lake in China?

I swam around a lot, from the Mediterranean to the puget sound, from the mighty Mississippi to lake Tahoe, but I've never been to anywhere between Beijing and Hong Kong. From my experience, warm fresh water lakes in developed areas can give you all sorts of problems. read more

In the 80s and 90s, it was still relatively safe to swim in lakes and rivers. But more people swim in rivers than in lakes as there are far more cities along rivers than around lakes.
