Reno has the Sierra Nevada Mountains in its back yard. We have Lake Tahoe within a 30–45 minute drive. The Truckee River has a kayak course in downtown Reno. Our traffic is moderate (except if you live north of town). We have some casinos but no where near Las Vegas's. read more
Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world and Reno just can't compare in that department. Gambling-wise, Vegas has many more casinos--and much nicer ones. Reno's casino's are mostly older, smaller .Reno is colder in the winter time and they can get a lot of snow. read more
Reno has heart, history: Reno has much more respect for its deep history than Las Vegas, which is a transient city that oozes corporate influence. Reno is a real community with real people, whereas Las Vegas looks like a mishmash thrown together in an attempt to pump money into the bottom dollar. read more
ANSWER: They may be in the same state, but Reno and Vegas have quite a few differences in terms of entertainment and flash. Vegas is overflowing with casinos with high-value productions — it’s the entertainment capital of the world. Reno casinos are smaller and older with more of a local flare. read more
The other posters are right, if you are inside a casino you can't much tell the difference between Vegas and Reno. I stay at Harrah's and absolutely prefer Harrah's Reno to Harrah's Las Vegas. I also suggest you try Reno. read more
