Considering that the vast majority of self harm via cutting is not medically extreme (though the superficiality or otherwise of it should not be correlated with mental state) the main physical danger is infection. Cutting is dangerous on many levels, not the least of which is the physical injury that can result. Some cuts are not very deep, although they do break the skin and cause bleeding. Other cuts may require medical attention in the form of stitches. Regardless of the severity of the self-injury, all cutting should be taken seriously. read more
