Known as the Oculus, the building is designed to bring light down into the subterranean rail station and shopping centre that quietly opened in March 2016. The main station house, the Oculus, opened on March 3, 2016, and the terminal was renamed the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, or World Trade Center for short. The World Trade Center station has five tracks and four platforms in the middle of a turning loop. Trains from New Jersey use the loop to turn around and head back to New Jersey. read more

The World Trade Center offers direct, weather-protected access to most of the City’s subway, bus and ferry lines. Two new train stations – the WTC Transportation Hub designed by Santiago Calatrava, and the MTA Fulton Transit Center designed by Nicholas Grimshaw make coming and going fast and convenient. read more

By April, the plan was to build a temporary terminal at approximately the site of World Trade Center station, with a shed roof, and stairs and escalators running up four stories to the street.
