Natural predators of the platypus include snakes, water rats, goannas, spotted quolls, eels, hawks, owls and eagles. In the north of its range, dingoes are another predator. Lower platypus numbers in far northern Australia are possibly due to predation by crocodiles. read more
Platypi don’t really have any predators, the main predator was people when they discovered them, they thought they were so cool they would send biological specimen back to England. read more
The platypus has also had to deal with threats from humans. Humans have destroyed much of the platypuses habitat along the rivers and streams where they live. Humans have placed paths along these water areas that cause erosion and give predators better access to platypus burrows. read more
