Mutations are what can move our species forward. They can be the catalyst for evolution to take place since they provide the genetic variation necessary for this process to occur. These mutations, if good, then can be passed down to future generations and benefit the species. read more
CONS: Some mutations result in loss of function of a gene which would otherwise produce an important protein having a specific important role in our survival resulting in a non functional protein or a gain of function of a gene, which as a result produces excess protein which can be harmful. read more
Genetic engineering helps humans have a chance at a healthier, longer life with more desirable physical characteristics. By altering the genes of fetuses, there is a strong likelihood that future generations will be taller, stronger, healthier and better looking. read more
Some mutations, however, can lead to deadly diseases. Take cancer for example, it occurs because the replication regulator of a cell becomes damaged. Apoptosis or T-cells did not kill the cell off and it continues to divide rapidly. There’s a lot of other pros and cons, but this is all I can think of off of the top of my head. read more
