The stereotypical Vivaldi work is The Four Seasons; I don’t listen to it very often as I don’t much care for virtuoso screeching on the violin. His concertos for mandolin, recorder, oboe or bassoon and strings are wonderful music, as are his concerti da camera (chamber concertos for various groupings of oboe, flute, bassoon, theorbo and harpsichord, without strings). read more

Vivaldi is seldom underestimated by many and for this reason I have compiled a short list of his best works. Whilst 'le quattro stagioni' is among the best of his efforts in the Ryom-Verzeichnis it is overexposed - much like Bach's third Brandenburg Concerto. read more
