Breton started with a cold hatred of society and everything it represented, especially militarism. His friend Jacques Vache, an odd GI to say the least, embodied Dadaism for him more than Tristan Tzara ever did. When Vache died, I think Breton began something else which would ultimately become Surrealism. read more
