Escher is interested in illusionary realism that upon closer looking reveals visual paradoxes. He creates impossible mazes as sort of playgrounds for the viewer to explore. I would argue he is not so much depicting anythings as much as he is illustrating aspects of life that may include emotions like the sensation of being lost or tumbling through life. read more
