I think Forrest Gump is ok. However, I believe the reason many dislike it is the film's "American-ness". The entire film is deeply rooted in Americana. The plot, themes, jokes, and overall "feeling" of the film is blatantly American in nature. read more

It offers young viewers a valuable history lesson "Forrest Gump" spans some 30 years and touches on many important chapters in U.S. history, including the Vietnam War, the '60s anti-war movement and the Watergate scandal. read more

Although, sometimes things are lost in translation, so it's not totally out of the question for a foreign audience to not love the movie. Still doesn't make Forrest Gump a bad film.
