Aircraft carriers are so large, that they actually do better in a storm than most ships. The flight deck of an aircraft carrier is around 60 or 70 feet above the water. What the storm does do it is essentially disables the carrier. Though in theory it might be possible to launch aircraft during rough seas and dangerous weather, it would be extremely dangerous for the flight deck personnel and may make even a catapult assisted takeoff difficult. read more
