Depends on people. And their circumstances. Those who are born deaf can start learning Sign Language right from the beginning. Or even opt for cohealer implants if it suits them. Hearing aids increase the hearing. I don't know if they work on people that are born/become stone deaf. read more

Almost unanimously among culturally Deaf people, you will find that we view the use of signed language, especially natural signed languages rather than artificial varieties such as SEE and other manually coded (spoken language of your choice) to be the best option (and really, it should not be an option at all). read more

Given that Deaf people function perfectly fine within society, holding jobs, owning houses and cars, maintaining a circle of friendships locally and nationally without needing a CI (or even hearing aids), it is no surprise that we do not flock to get what is ultimately an unnecessary, uncertain, and potentially unhealthy "fix". read more
