if you don't like reading it - essentially it's the lemon oil reacting with polystyrene. I haven't seen lemon juice doing the hole thing yet (but I guess most of the time people drink lemon juice cold and they don't exactly leave them to sit in the cup to steep unlike the way some people love to leave their hot tea (with lemon) to cool down. read more

I don't expect it's especially dangerous; any polystyrene that dissolves would have a hard time getting absorbed and it's not particularly toxic anyway. read more
