Most other places I've visited or lived, I honestly think the consumer culture of Hong Kong would be considered distasteful or vulgar. There are some exceptions of course (you could argue there are pockets like LA, Dubai, Singapore - that all have these kind of elements too) but HK is just a long way ahead of them in terms of how deeply this culture goes in the society that I've seen. read more
