What do surgeons do after they finish a surgery?

After finishing surgery, most surgeon will write postoperative orders in chart for care of patients and likely wait for patient to wake up from anesthesia. We would always talk or give a phone-call to the family whether surgery went fine or there were any issues. read more

Surgeons usually do this after the operation, in OR when bandaging up the patient (if spinal and not too sedated) or in recovery (if general anesthesia) but particularly with the latter the patients are usually still too doped up to really remember much (if at all) - it is impractical to expect surgeons to wait around for hours until the patient is lucid enough to remember everything. read more
