What do the Chinese think about the Yulin Dog eating festival?

Somehow, I cannot get myself to 100% unequivocally support the ban on dog meat and on the Yulin Festival. While I'm a dog lover who volunteers with the SPCA, I still feel that Chinese and others who eat dog meat have the right to do so. It's a civil liberty. Would the ACLU fight for this liberty?
