In general I think the majority of Thais are quite peaceful and welcoming. As long as you remain polite and aware of their customs, they will be glad to have you as a guest in their country. I think by and large people that one doesn’t know have to be treated with respectful suspicion until their motives become more apparent. The law can not be seen as a blanket protection, in most transactions you will have to look after yourself. Find the right people and you will do well, the wrong crowd and there is no end of trouble. read more
Even if you don’t speak Thai at all you can still add it to anything you say – thank you ka, one coconut ka, good morning ka, f*** off ka.. They show respect to the Royal family – Thais love the King and the Royal family. read more
