What do you think of Lana Del Rey and her music?

My interpretation of her work is that she's doing a send-up of the tropes of pop music, race and gender roles. However, I'm not 100% sure about that interpretation and I don't know if the majority of her fans get that. I have a weakness for smokey-voiced female pop singers like Del Rey. read more

Her image is contrived like Lady Ga Ga but she seems to have more skin in the game and seems to be drawing her singing and song writing from her own experiences in her youth. I'm fond of her music in the same way I like Lorde, it's got a wry innocence to it while remaining extraordinarily listenable and playing with musical themes from multiple genres and eras. read more
