All joking aside, the Nightly News anchors speak something that sounds very much like midwestern English, which Michigan covers pretty well. The word I hear the biggest difference with is "Hockey". In Canada, Ohio, and elsewhere, it sounds to us like the word is "Hawkey". read more

Michigan does not have one accent but many. White people who grew up in Detroit have a unique accent, different from their suburbs. People from southwest Michigan have some elements of a Chicago accent and those from the north have some elements of Canadian or Wisconsin.
