What eats a pond lily?

Two kinds of common snails that invade a pond and water lily are pond snails and apple snails. Pick off snails by hand, and destroy them. Aphids suck sap from plant tissue, leaving water lilies yellow or brown with distorted shapes. Aquatic leaf beetles chew holes in the leaves, causing stippling. Larger animals eat water lily leaves, seeds or roots. Heavy feeding that removes most of the leaf may damage water lilies, especially over the course of two to three years. read more

Insects such as aphids, midges and the China mark moth love to eat lily pads. The China mark moth is a major pest of the water lily. Other consumers of lily pads include turtles, some species of koi, and Pond and Apple snails. read more
