Printed fabrics and artificial fiber fabrics will vary in reaction to bleach. Printed fabrics of natural fibers and artificial fibers would not be affected by bleach much, color wise. I believe that your problem may be that your shirt is not DYED grey, but a blend of 90% white cotton and 10% black (or dark grey) Polyester, giving it that"heathered" look. The only fibers in the shirt that are colored are polyester, which won't bleach. read more

Often these bleach-resistant dyes are used on cotton or another dyeable material, so the fact that your fabric would not bleach does not mean you cannot dye it. However, if your fabric is made of polyester, you will not be able to dye it. read more
