What happened to the Scythians/Sarmatians of Eastern Europe?

The Scythians and Sarmatians were typically nomadic peoples, as with most nomadic cultures of the era, they slowly but surely began to integrate into the settled peoples that lived in an around the areas they occupied. The Sarmatians eventually assimilated into the proto-Slavic peoples in and around Eastern Europe. The Scythians I am less sure about, I believe that they slowly dispersed and migrated throughout the lands throughout late antiquity until the idea of a ‘Scythian’ culture became too dilute and vague to be considered seriously. read more

By 200 BC, the Sarmatians replaced the Scythians as the dominant people of the steppes. The Sarmatians and Scythians had fought on the Pontic steppe to the north of the Black Sea. The main feature though is that Turkic and Slavic languages dominate instead in Indo-Iranian Languages which survives in Afghanistan, Southern Russia and Tajikistan, as opposed to the whole area when scythians and Neo Scytians (Alans,Sarmatians,Sakas,Soghdian) used to dominate. please check out the article, it might explain better. read more
