What happens to gravity if the Earth stops spinning?

If you consider general relativity and the difference between schwarzschild and kerr black holes, I think we can start to see the difference. A kerr black hole, or a spinning black hole, has features to it's gravitational field that the schwarzchild does not have. Namely an ergosphere. read more

Actually, there would be a change in the gravity experienced on Earth - albeit a very small one. The acceleration due to gravity at the equator is slightly less than at the poles due to a centrifugal force experienced due to Earth’s rotation about its axis. read more

If the Earth stopped spinning suddenly, the atmosphere would still be in motion with the Earth's original 1100 mile per hour rotation speed at the equator. All of the land masses would be scoured clean of anything not attached to bedrock. read more
