Slaves arrived in the American colonies almost as soon as settlers from England had arrived. Perhaps if slavery had been abolished well before the civil war, and all practices enslaving the blacks hadn't happened, maybe it would have been an even better country. Perhaps Blacks would have lived as any other groups. But this is a wild guess. read more

Realistically America would have had to be devoid of people prior to European arrival if slavery were never to have existed in America. Of course that is a pretty radical change from how history played out and it would affect European colonization and the development of America in many ways. read more
