At Stalingrad, when one had to fight for survival, there was no inherent advantage, either for the German forces, or the Soviet forces, before the Soviets were reinforced by troops, and supplies. By this I mean, that for the first time in a battle the Germans thought they could and should win, their strategic and tactical thinking utterly failed them.
