What if Mars were our moon at its current orbit?

Best Answers

If Mars had been the moon of Earth since the formation of the two worlds in the orbit of our moon, the two worlds would be very different. read more

Fortunately Mars in the same orbit as the Moon is an unstable situation so Mars will quite quickly move out to a more distant orbit and its effects will decrease, leaving Earth (and hopefully some humans) to start over again. read more

It would still probably remain in the Earth's orbit but it could be touch and go over thousands maybe millions of orbits, and the Moon would be significantly more perturbed and probably more eccentric at times and there's a chance Earth could lose the moon in this scenario, turning it into a dangerous near earth object that we would basically share an orbit with, and possibly crash into the Earth, or get tossed away by gravity assist. read more
