Baseflow (also called drought flow, groundwater recession flow, low flow, low-water flow, low-water discharge and sustained or fair-weather runoff) is the portion of streamflow delayed shallow subsurface flow". Baseflow tends to mean any flow in a stream or river between storms. We usually use the shape of the hydrograph, a plot of stream flow (discharge) through time, to separate periods of storm response from baseflow. There is often a separate meaning associated with the term baseflow. read more
