Most ponies I've known have outlived their horse friends. Horses today are living well into their thirties. My last two ponies were 39 and 43 when they died and both had done light leadline lessons to the age of 35. read more
The word pony derives from the old French poulenet, meaning foal, a young, immature horse, but this is not the modern meaning; unlike a horse foal, a pony remains small when fully grown. However, on occasion, people who are unfamiliar with horses may confuse an adult pony with a foal. read more
The life expectancy of a horse depends on many factors. Breeding does of course come into play although my personal belief is that the care of the animal is a larger factor than anything. I like to think that we take care of our horses and that we give them a beautiful long life. read more
