The term “i-card” is short for “investigation card”. I-cards are notifications indicating that the police are looking for a “subject”. The subject of an i-card isn’t always someone who police possess probable cause to arrest. The subject might be a "person of interest" who is wanted for questioning. read more

The police can look for you regardless of an I card. An I card lets anyone who runs your name in the NYPD computer know you are wanted for one or more reasons.
