I prefer camping at Death Valley in the winter. The daytime temperatures are mild and nice. Although it can get very cold at night, even dropping into the teens, it's easy to prepare for that. read more

Backcountry camping in Death Valley isn't subject to many regulations. So if you want to avoid crowds at established campgrounds, you can simply park your car on the side of the road and walk out into the desert for about two miles (i.e., until you're out of sight) and set up camp where you like. read more
