What is inspiring about Pride and Prejudice?

I can think of two ways P&P can be called "inspiring", though I'm convinced it was not written to be. Elizabeth Bennet is bookish, poor, and sassy. She feels no need to compensate for being this way by being overly servile to those above her station, like so many others around her do. read more

I love Pride and Prejudice but I'm not sure I'd use the word "inspiring" to describe it. A happy ending is always nice, and P&P delivers that beautifully, but there's no terrible adversity to overcome, no abject poverty or painful disease or crippling injury. read more
