I haven't biked in all parts of Oakland, but I would say that Downtown Oakland, Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, Montclair, Uptown, Temescal-Telegraph, are quite bikable parts of Oakland. I've biked in these neighborhoods on several occasions, for work or leisure. read more

Oakland is generally bike-friendly in my experience, although it isn't as far along with things like bike lanes in downtown as San Francisco. The parks in the hills make for great fitness riding. Your experience as a commuting cyclist will depend on where you live and where you're trying to get to. read more
