OK, I wasn't going to reply, but here it goes. I am African American and lived in Melbourne Australia for three years. I have to agree that African Americans are treated well there. Australians don't have the history of slavery an intense racism like the United States. The black population in Australia is pretty small. read more

In Australia, Asians are very common and Aborigines are of course well known, but black Africans and African-Americans have been only rarely seen until recently. I've only really started to see African-looking people on the streets in the last five years or so. read more
