Obviously, this is not how most Mongolians grow up. But being an English-speaking foreigners, you’ll naturally hear more of these stories than of the other ones. I don’t know what it is like to grow up in the ger districts; my guess would be horrible. There’s still children selling magazines, chewing gums, cigarettes on the streets of UB. read more

One negative aspect of living in Mongolia is that foreigners can occasionally be targets for discrimination and even violence due to growing nationalism. Particularly at night, foreigners should be on their guard and use good judgment—as they would if living in any major city. read more
