I've never been to Florida, so I can't really answer. However, I knew a Chinese American guy who lived there for a number of years. He had immigrated to the U.S. in his early teens. He wholeheartedly absorbed the Southern, conservative vibe of Jacksonville. read more
If you’re an Asian who doesn’t immediately come across as cool or progressive, it’s best to avoid SF, Berkeley, and Oakland. If you have a demeanor that others perceive as conservative, dowdy, or goody-two-shoes - it would be great to live in an unpretentiously Southern place like Jacksonville. read more
Jacksonville isn't like other parts of the country, such as Washington DC or LA. It's still somewhat of a small town, although b/c of the Navy, there is a large Filipino community, and b/c of the 1970's-1980's refugees fleeing Vietnam, Cambodia, etc. there is a relatively healthy Vietnamese and Cambodian community. read more
But Jacksonville is located perfectly, giving you the ability to reach a slew of Florida’s pristine beaches including Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, Neptune Beach, St. Augustine, and Atlantic Beach all within an hour’s drive. read more
