Grains. The more you have, the older and hence, harder the wood would be. Lesser the number of grains, the younger and hence, softer the wood would be. They also last longer and are more forgiving to abuse like yorkers and edges than the harder bats with more grains. Average mass produced English Willow bats would have about 6 to 8 grains. read more
Best Answer: A good cricket bat should have anywhere between 6-12 grains. Anything less than 6 grains is a rip off and won't last for a long time. A narrower grain cricket bat is fine, but it won't be expected to last. read more
