The sawfish is from the ray family while the saw shark is truly a shark. Sawfish get a lot bigger than saw sharks and put up a good fight, so they are sought after by sport fisherman. A goodsized sawfish can be as big as 7 meters. read more
but baby sawfish live in mangroves and sometimes even in rivers (freshwater). My saw has fewer teeth, but they are wider, stronger teeth. My saw has a rounded blunt tip. I may look like a shark but i’m more closely related to rays. That’s why my gill slits are on my ventral surface, near my mouth.
