Mosquitoes can have both positive and negative impacts on the ecosystem. As part of their useful role, the larvae of mosquitoes live in water and provide food for fish and other wildlife, including larger larvae of other species such as dragonflies. In my view , it won't harm the ecology if mosquitoes are extinct because they don't really contribute anything good to the environment or to the population. That's the ecological role (aka "purpose") of mosquitoes. As for any benefit they provide humans, the answer is none. On the contrary, mosquito borne illnesses (namely malaria) are the number one killer of humanity, period. No other disease or war comes remotely close. read more
