In general, life span is correlated to body size (hippos and rhinos are other animals that do very well), but there are some other interesting patterns. Primates seem to do relatively well (it's not just us), and we are among the largest primates; then again, the maximum life span in the largest primate, the gorilla, is only 39 according to my source. read more
